On Wednesday 25 October we held our annual Sport Awards Evening. As usual, it was a great night, with tickets all selling out! We celebrated the sporting year that was, announced MVP鈥檚 for our major codes, acknowledged our NZ Reps and our major trophies were awarded at the end of the night.

Huge thanks to the BDSC Kapa Haka group who opened our evening, with their beautiful waiata. It was a great way to get the night started.

Dave Letele (aka Brown Buttabean, former NRL player and Boxer) was our amazing guest speaker, who engaged with the audience and delivered a strong message around building resilience. He got us on our feet, encouraging audience participation while getting his point through to both students and adults alike.

A quick game of 鈥淢inute to Win it鈥 got the crowd going again. Thanks to our contestants, Miss Byrne, Craig Besley, Jono Upoko and Nicky Maera who were 鈥渞andomly鈥 selected to participate and gave it their best鈥hey weren鈥檛 competitive at all!!!!

Huge thank you to our coaches, managers, supporters and athletes that made 2023 a great sporting year at BDSC.

Congratulations to all our Sports award winners!

On the 27 October we held our Sports Awards evening. Not held for two years due to Covid restrictions, it was great to have it back on the calendar. It was a great night, with guest speaker Kirsten Fisher-Marsters (ex BDSC student and Cook Island Swimmer) giving a very relatable speech to our up and coming sports students. Tama-Aru (Cook Island Dance Group) were there providing the entertainment and put on an amazing show.

We hope all those who attended had an awesome night.

A huge congratulations to our alumni students Tone Ng Shui (NZ Sevens) and Kirsten Fisher-Marsters (Cook Island Swimming) who became our 2nd and 3rd ex-BDSC students to become Olympians. They follow in the footsteps of Merissa Gibbens (nee Smith) who represented NZ in Football in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Kirsten was one of the proud flag bearers for the Cook Islands at the opening ceremony and set a personal best and a new Cook Island record in the 100m Breaststroke. Then, as many of you will be aware, the NZ Mens Sevens team came home with silver medals, making Tone our first ever medallist at an Olympic Games. We are all very proud of their achievements on the world stage.

Softball Girls One Day Tournament

15聽March 2021

Great day out two teams competing in the annual competition.

Team Blue:

Thank you to Ormiston Senior school for allowing some students to participate and putting together a composite team.

The girls competed and did very well in the Division 1 competition. We lost narrowly to Alfriston in the Plate final.

Great individual performances from Samantha Greenwood (12B1), Alana Wilson (9D3) and home hitter Angela Clark (10D3).

Team Maroon:

Our team partaking in the Slow pitch competition and just getting out there and having a go. We hope the enjoyment of playing softball will encourage you to trial and play in 2022.

Our sincerest gratitude goes out to Kahleigh Matagi (BDSC Class of 2020) Mr Sam Hiko and Mrs Rochelle Harris for volunteering to coach or manage our teams without your help we couldn鈥檛 give out students the opportunity.

Touch One Day Tournament

16 March 2021

A fantastic day out with only two trainings due to lockdown and busy afternoons with other summer sports. The young team did exceptionally well and placed second聽in the annual tournament.

Our co-captains Ryan Collett (10J11) and Riya Naidoo (13B1) led the team well with Gary Basson (10K12) having a blinder of a tournament.

Our Senior A Mix team would have participated in the promotion relegation match later this year, but due to BDSC already competing in the Premier Grade the option will be given to the team who placed third.

Premier Mix Touch

The team competed in the Premier competition held at Dilworth Senior School and did remarkably well with a young squad led by co-captains Zachariah Te Haki (12S10) and Jayde McDowell (13S4). The highlight was winning against the second best Secondary School in NZ, Mahurangi. A very challenging match individually and as team.

A huge thank you to our Premier coaches Pete and Phillipa Samuel for their guidance, development and preparation of our up and coming talent.

Counties Zone Athletics

A successful day for our Botany students with 27 competing and 21 qualifying for Auckland Champions on Tuesday 30聽March at Mt Smart Stadium. Fantastic effort from both our Intermediate girls and boys who also qualified a fantastic feat for BDSC.
