DESCRIPTION:NCEA and Scholarship Examination Timetable\nAll NCEA (levels 1 – 3) and New Zealand Scholarship examination sessions are three hours. \nAll exam sessions start at either 9:30 am or 2:00 pm. \nMore info\n\nExternal examination information for students\nInformation about NZQA Fees\nCandidate Information Sheet.pdf\n\nFor more information refer to Examinations. \n\nAny student unable to sit their external examination due to ill health must notify the school by contacting the Principal’s Nominee – information listed below:\nDerived Grades over NZQA examination period? What will be considered?\nDerived grades are for exam candidates who\, just before or during the examinations\, suffer:\n· a temporary illness\,\n· trauma ( ie. a deeply distressing or disturbing experience) or misadventure (i.e. an event beyond their control)\n· another serious event. \nCandidates should sit the examination where-ever possible. Candidates who sit the examination but believe that their preparation or performance was impaired or were unable to sit the examination should apply for a derived grade. \nApplications must refer to events of a medical or non-medical nature that:\n· have clearly had an effect on the candidate during the examination\n· Stopped the candidate from attending the examination. You must get a medical certificate on that day. \nWhat won’t be considered?\nThe temporary illness\, trauma or other serious event must be of a significant nature. Applications will not be granted on grounds such as:\n· minor ailments\n· stress due to examinations\n· parents being on holiday\n· day-to-day family disturbances\n· Death or euthanasia of a pet. \nWhat about long-term conditions?\nThe following conditions alone are not acceptable grounds for a derived grade application:\n· long-term and ongoing illnesses and conditions (e.g. concussion\, physical disability\, anxiety\, epilepsy\, depression\, anorexia nervosa and other eating disorders)\n· chronic relapsing conditions (e.g.\, glandular fever\, ME)\n· Ongoing personal trauma. \nThese conditions are usually managed through conditions and/or modifying the candidate’s assessment programme. However\, where there is a sudden change in a managed chronic condition/illness that is documented by a medical professional\, and the candidate believes they are unable to perform on the day of the examination as well as they usually have\, NZQA will consider an application. \nFor example\, a change in medication might cause a documented and observable change in the way that a chronic condition/illness is managed and have a clear and observable effect on the candidate. In such a case\, the impairment is seen as temporary and if a registered professional is willing to support an application\, NZQA will consider it. \nWhat has to be provided?\nIndependent professional evidence is required confirming the temporary illness\, trauma or other serious event that affected the candidate’s preparation\, performance or attendance on the day of the examination\, was beyond their control\, and/or made it impossible for them to sit the examination.\nFor events occurring in the period immediately prior to the examination\, the candidate must clearly demonstrate that effective preparation was not possible in the week before the examination and provide evidence that they were under continuous and well-documented care by a registered professional. \nContact the school\nPlease contact c.vankralingen@bdsc.school.nz (Principal’s Nominee) or phone him directly on 273 2310 ext. 207 to discuss further. SUMMARY:Picnic Day
DESCRIPTION:9.05am – 12:15pm followed by shared whānau lunch 12:15 – 1:15 pm. Students then based in their whānaus and school will end at the slightly earlier time of 2pm. \nA fun day held annually in the last week of Term 4. The morning consists of going around in your classes competing in 13 short fun games\, such as ‘Sack Race’\, ‘3- Legged Race’ and the famous “Sponge Relay’. \nThe cafe will be open during lunchtime but only selling the basics – drinks\, juices and potato chips. \nWhat to bring\n\nIf organised by your Whānau\, students to bring a shared lunch to their Whānau – items as advised by your Whānau Leader/Tutor\nSuncream\nHat\nWater bottle\nif needed\, antihistamines. Only our nurse can administer them in case of emergency\, and hay fever can be especially high this time of year.\nGreat attitude\n\nMost of the day is spent outside\, please remember to be Sun Smart. \nWhat to wear\nStudents are permitted to travel to school in their correct sports gear – BDSC PE shorts (no exceptions) with BDSC PE t-shirt. \nFace paint is ok if used sparingly and sensibly. To be applied once you are at school in your tutor classes. \nFormat\n\nAll students to report to your whānau promptly at 9.05 am to drop off food and do roll call.\nClasses rotate around the 12 events in the morning.\nYear 9 and 10 classes will be ranked from 1st to 12th for each activity. 1st = 12 points\, 2nd = 11 points etc.\nAt the end of the day\, there will be a Year 9 and Year 10 winner\, and then the overall winner\, which will go towards the Whānau Shield.\nThere are bonus points awarded for behaviour\, enthusiasm\, teamwork etc as well as following dress-code.\n\nPotential activities include\nChest Shuffle\, Sack Race\, Hoop Exchange\, Lunar Landing\, Sponge Relay\, Noodle Hockey\, Skittles\, 3-Legged Race\, and Hoopla.
