Waipaparoa Kāhui Ako Schools

The schools that comprise the Waipaparoa Kāhui Ako are located within a 7km radius. The seven colored triangles, each representing a school in our community (Cockle Bay Primary, Point View Primary, Shelly Park Primary, Willow Bank Primary, Baverstock Primary, Somerville Intermediate, and Botany Downs Secondary ߲ݴý), symbolize the unity of purpose, like a school of flounder fish traveling as one. Collectively, they form a large ‘W’, which stands as a symbol of the strength of the stingray.

Their catchments primarily cover urban areas, with some semi-rural geography. While Howick is a well-established area with a strong heritage, a significant portion of the Botany area, which our schools encompass, has been developed relatively recently, over the past 25 years. This area has attracted immigrants from a wide range of countries, particularly Asia and the Middle East. Consequently, schools have observed a change in the ethnic composition of their student bodies and a marked increase in the number of new learners of the English language.

In 2023, 55% of the students were of Asian heritage, 26% were Pākehā, 5.1 % Māori students, Pasifika 5.3%, and 1.6% International.
